United's Future

Exploring the Future of United Community Schools

Patron Letter

United Community has seen growth in our student population and projections are showing this to continue.  In addition, we are coming to the end of our whole grade sharing agreement with Ames and Boone School Districts in two years. Currently, the United Community School Board is exploring options for future agreements and grade configurations.  We will be seeking input from staff, parents and community to help guide our decisions. This is an exciting time looking toward the future with a growing population and a strong financial status.

Our exploration includes

  • keeping current grade level configuration (PS-6th) or expanding grade levels
  • reaching out to neighboring districts for grade sharing not served at United (currently 7th-12th).

The United School Board will be making a decision this fall on the direction to proceed with.  Your input is critical to providing data to the board to help guide their decisions. These decisions will go into effect following the 2018-19 school year.  Students currently enrolled in grades 4 and below would be affected.

Our School Board is committed to making decisions that will benefit our students and is financially responsible.

Input from the United Community

Input from our community is critical to help guide school board decisions.  This will be from a series of surveys and meetings.  United Staff have met with the school board and provided input.

A series of meetings will be scheduled in the spring to seek input from United Community residents and parents.   Information will be mailed out and placed on our website and social media to inform of the dates and times of those meetings.
